Qatar's GTA extends Tax Return filing to May 2023

The General Tax Authority in Qatar has announced that taxpayers shall now submit their tax returns for the year 2022. The tax authority added that the last submission date had been postponed from April to May 31, 2023. 

In answer to the request, and in light of the auspicious month of Ramadan, which will be followed by the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, which is anticipated to be observed in the last week of April 2023, the GTA has granted a one (1) month delay for submitting tax returns for FY2022. As a result, GTA revised the deadline for tax return submission for taxpayers with fiscal years ending December 31, 2022 to May 31, 2023. Here is what you need to know. Hence, any income tax obligation for these Taxpayers is also payable on or before May 31, 2023.

Taxpayers can now pay their tax returns online through the Dhareebha portal, by logging in or consulting with tax agents who help you with tax planning and tax return filings.

The steps included submitting Tax returns in the Dhareebha portal are,

1. log in to the Dhareebha portal

2. Access the dashboard and fill in the basic company information

3. Submit Tax returns

4. Review and declare the payment

5. Acknowledgement

6. Click Notification and receive SMS, Email and PDF on submission of Corporate Income Tax Return

This circular had been issued concerning the exceptional circumstances of the Eid Al-Fitr holiday falling in the last week of April 2023 which would be around the original deadline for tax filing. 

Here is the group that is exempted from submitting tax returns:

  •  Companies from the field of petroleum operations and petrochemical industries
  • People whose accounting periods are different from the tax year

Penalty

Late filing of tax returns will impose a penalty of QAR 500 per day, capped at QAR 180,000, while late payment of Tax will charge a penalty of 2% per month capped to the Income Tax due.
